Liner notes from Wynonna's Classic Christmas album

I've heard that when the student is ready, the teacher appears. God sent you to me just in time! Thank you for encouraging me to take my vocal ability to the NEXT LEVEL. You are truly an angel spirit. (liner notes from Wynonna's Classic Christmas Album)

TENNESSEEAN

Monday, 11/20/06 TENNESSEEAN WYNONNA PARES CHRISTMAS ALBUM TO BARE, BEAUTIFUL BASICS By BEVERLY KEEL Staff Writer Wynonna unveils a brand-new vocal sound on her first Christmas album, yet the result is as familiar as your favorite childhood holiday memories. Although she's widely considered to be among the best singers in country music, Wynonna began working with Nashville vocal coach Ron Browning in preparing to record "Ave Maria" for A Classic Christmas. "I have found a real sweet spot in my voice that shows up on my Christmas CD," she says. "He took me to another world. "Vocally, it's like training for the Olympics. It's pretty intense. I've always been just play by ear and what I feel, but this is very technical and very different." The perennial powerhouse demonstrates great restraint and respect for the season on songs such as "I'll Be Home for Christmas," "O Holy Night," "Silent Night" and "It's the Messiah." She has grown weary of vocal acrobatics displayed by singers who are intent on changing the classic songs that mean so much to so many. "I craved the traditional in my life," she says. "We are getting pretty carried away with how many samples we can put on it and how many times we can trill the voice," she says. "When you listen to a Bing Crosby version of 'White Christmas' — the only version, really — it doesn't get any better than that. I wanted it to be simple and sweet and a real pleasure for people to listen to in the background . . . when they are decorating their tree. "My philosophy in making this record was I wanted to go back to a time in my life when all things were possible and I believed with a child's heart. This record to me is everything I love about Christmas. There's a sound, a quality, a sense of timelessness. I get real melancholy listening to some of the songs because it reminds me of people I loved who are no longer here. It's a walk down memory lane." But it's also a celebration of the greatest loves of her life. "For me, of course, 'Santa Claus Is Coming to Town' was probably the highlight because Grace and Elijah sang on the record," she says of her children. "They got $50 each. Grace wanted to know if that meant she was in the union. It was their first gig." •

Personal Note from Patti LaBelle

Dear Ron, I never believed in vocal coaches. But today you made a believer out of me. You are Phenomenal! You are a Miracle Worker and I thank you for my voice. I will see you soon and thank for for the experience. Patti LaBelle 2007

President of BIG ENTERPRISES ENTERTAINMENT

Ron Browning is my "go to" to coach to get my artists prepared and in peak shape. He is incredibly gifted at finding each artist's tipping point, taking them over the edge and then leading them to the next level. Not only do I trust him professionally, he's a good friend.

Naomi Judd Quote for my Voice Text Book

It is a comfort and a joy to have Ron on the road with me. He de-mystifies vocal techniques and makes singing feel effortless and natural. When it comes to voice coaches, Ron is the KING.

Paul Reisler of Kid Pan Alley

Ron is one of the small hand-full of teachers I have met in my life who listens so intently that he always knows what to do to take his students to the next level. He's supportive, adventurous, brilliant, masterful, and full of heart. He's simply one of the best teachers of anything I've ever seen. Ron's helped me uncover a part of myself that I always longed for and never had the courage to touch. His gift will help me do the same for those I teach.

The Planet Bluegrass Song School

Ron is an instant HIT at The Song School in Colorado. He possesses the tools and ability to connect deeply with singer-songwriters and help them deliver their best performance.

Kevin Mahogany Quote for Vocal Text Book

To say Ron is the best is an understatement. I can't thank him enough!

Nashville JAZZ WORKSHOP Endorsement

Ron is simply one of the best vocal coaches in this part of the United States. Ron teaches in a very professional manor and shows respect and love to each of his students. His dedication to our vocal program has been overwhelming, and his classes are the most popular!!! I have seen amazing transformations with his students, young, old, amateur or pros. Ron has been teaching at the workshop for over 8 years. We feel very privileged to have him on board at the Nashville Jazz Workshop.

Annie Sellick email to Nashville Jazz Workshop

I have never seen a class of singers so supportive of one another. The encouragement amongst the singers is VERY VERY special and VERY VERY rare. It's like Ron follows his heart on something that is instinct more than method and it takes off like crazy. The singers in the class who "get it" - the celebration of encouragement, that honesty (in pure sound and in verbal feedback) are really on to something and it seems to just get better and better. I could see this, however unconventional, being a new "method." It is fun, psychologically liberating and vocally liberating. Ron somehow taps into a vocal "way" that is needed and it is enlightening He perfectly fosters what comes out naturally in each singer in the class - in their voices and in their interactions with each other. Wy is shaken, not stirred September 26, 2006 Wynonna will release her first Christmas album, Wynonna: A Classic Christmas, Oct. 10, some 20 years after she and her mom released one. You'll get the classics, Winter Wonderland, White Christmas, O Holy Night, Santa Claus is Coming to Town and others. There's one original, It's the Messiah, written by Wy collaborator Don Potter, and it's a reason-for-the-season song about Jesus' birth. But the toughest song was Ave Maria, which Wy sang in Latin, thanks to the help of vocal coach Ron Browning. Wy said Ron had to shake her to get her to relax during the recording. How many shakings? "There were a lot," she said, laughing. You can see Wy perform the songs live Nov. 24 and 25 at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. She hopes disco diva/Nashville resident Donna Summer will be a special guest. "I'm having a dress made. I'm going to be that diva I've always wanted to be," Wy promises.

FOUNDER/DIRECTOR of KID PAN ALLEY

I so enjoyed working with you...and learned so much. I'm trying to hold onto it and really work everyday. I still can't seem to keep the tone forward at low volume and separating the notes to give them stronger rhythm is also a problem. I've been taping myself and can hear how much better I sound than I did when I first walked in to your studio. You're a great teacher--you listen first and then come up with just what the person needs.

FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CONCERT SERIES 250TH ANIVERSARY OF MOZART

Ron, I was listening to a recording I made yesterday with the clarinetist, pianist, and myself rehearsing the Mozart aria...I've never sounded better and I know I owe it all to you. I just wanted to cry it was so beautiful. I don't think I can express just how very grateful I am to you for helping me to express myself. I am sending you a very big hug right now!!! xoxox Melissa

NASHVILLE STAR SEARCH WINNER 2006

I think Ron is the BERRIES! I have taken classes with Ron both this summer and last. I have learned so much from him. He works on little bits of the song all the way through and then when I put it all together it is like WOW! Ron has helped me with supporting my big notes to tapping my toe and being uncomfortable in certain areas of songs! Ron Browning is definitely the vocal and stage doctor!

EUROPEAN RECORDING ARTIST

Ron, since I started doing your vocal exercises, all of my articulators and musculature feel like they've been breaking out of prison! I'm excited about the work you and I've only just begun! Wow! In only a few shorts weeks your talent and skillfullness has had a great impact on me. "When the student is ready, the teacher appears."

NASHVILLE STAR SEARCH

Dear Mr. Browning, I am writing to say thank you for all of your help and advice to me after the showcases held in Nashville, July 21-23, 2006. I appreciate you taking the time after the showcase to speak with me regarding my song, "Country Girl in Disguise". I have taken that advice to heart and I am working on getting it mastered so that I can send it out for listening. Since there are very few African American female Country Musicians, I wrote that song so that people will understand that music is universal and knows no color. I always knew that the song was a way for me to come out to the world as a Country Artist like none has seen before. I am looking forward to more shows, and hopefully a future in Country Music as a writer and a singer. Sacha L. Moore

SINGER/SONGWRITER/GUITAR INSTRUCTOR

"Working with Ron has enabled me to develop something that every singer should prioritize: my own individuality that is unique to me and my voice. I am so grateful for the experience of working with him privately and with other students observing in the classroom. Through this observation and the practice of singing in the car, I was able to better understand how to utilize something that has eluded me as well as countless other voice instructors I have studied with for years"

FORMER CHILD STUDENT

Hi Ron, This is Asia Lee, from Harrodsburg, Ky. I'm not sure if you remember me or not, but I'm the little girl who once told you I didn't need singing lessons. When I look back at the tapes of me singing before I worked with you, well, lets just say I was wrong. I haven't seen you in about 8 years or so, I think, but I just wanted to thank you for all you have done for me. I didn't realize when I was younger, what great intsruction I was getting. I was just wondering if it was at all possible for me to continue to recieve that instruction?? Thank you for your time and I hope to hear from you again!

DIRECTOR OF SNAP ON 2 AND 4, JAZZ CLUB, AND FORMER VOICE STUDENT

I finally got your terrific CD away from my husband today and brought it to work. We are all enjoying it very much! It is really a work of art. Fun CD release party too, you were totally in your element.
